  • Setting up New Entertainment System

I'm setting up my sisters new entertainment system which normally wouldn't be a problem but i'm unsure of the HDMI.

Foxtel is analogue (i've told her to ring fox and see if they have a digital output)

AV receiver covers component, HDMI or analogue.

Tv is HDMI, component and analogue

    Bluray is the same.

so analogue to amp from foxtel, bluray hdmi to amp and then hdmi to tv but can't see the foxtel. Is this because you can't go UP from analogue through the HDMI cable? I thought receivers generally go UP but not DOWN? On a side note I can see the amp controls on my screen so the amp is outputting to the TV just fine.

    can someone clarify for me?

from memory the amp will still output the analogue signal through the hdmi...it just won't be HD

      what amp is it?
What does the instruction book say about upconverting analogue to HDMI ?

When i was shopping for an amp only some models upconverted,
I decided to send everything analogue or HDMI directly into the TV, then digital sound out of the TV to the Amp.

      cheers

mine doesn't upscale(RX-v550 yamaha) from memory. so I have it set up as in my pic.

But I'm very skeptical of these up scaling capabilities...

Yamaha rx539. Went through the whole manual and couldn't find anything saying or upscales or doesn't.

IF you have pass through setup on the amp you may not be able pass the analogue signal through the amp. Easiest solution would be to plug the video cable into the tv but leave the sounds going to the amp.

You are missing out on a lot then - SD content on a HD screen looks like ass unless you have a good upscaler

yeah that's my model ... his is identical to mine with HDMI etc ... mine only has component.

i'd say hers is the RX-V463. That rear panel is identical to theirs.

it was purchase a few months ago so must be the previous model.

i had a similar problem with mine, the blokes at West Coast HiFi told me i need to go into the foxtel set up menu and change the output or something like that.
I could never get it to work thru the amp so i now have fiberoptic sound output from foxtel to amp then ancient component output plugged into TV.
When i move house in a few months i'm gonna c if i can upgrade my foxtel box to the new one with HD output

It doesn't make a difference to me tom. I have an old crt tv but the audio is all digital thru optical cable.i]Posted via Mobile Device[/i]
