Ebony report 'reveals history of DoCS neglect'

Just saw this on the news. Apparently this little girl starved to death 2 years ago and her parents have just been sentenced, I think the father got 16 years for manslaughter and the mother got something like 20 for murder. In the news story on tv they said Ebony weighed 10 kilos when she was found dead and locked in her room

The New South Wales opposition says an internal Department of Community Services (DoCS) review has revealed a history of neglect by workers who handled the case of a seven-year-old girl who later starved to death in her Hunter Valley home.

The child, known only as Ebony, died two years ago and her parents have been convicted over her death.

The opposition's community services spokeswoman Pru Goward says she has obtained a copy of the Child Death Review Report under Freedom of Information laws.

Ms Goward says it shows caseworkers knew Ebony was a serious risk but did not see the child in the five years before she died.

"How can that child just disappear?" she said.

"Because there was a turnover of staff and they forgot to have their changeover meeting or they didn't have it adequately or it just wasn't passed on.

"It's not good enough and the minister's got to explain how that's going to stop."

In a statement, DoCS says recommedations were made in the review to ensure improvements to the system in the future.
This poor girl suffered from autism and was locked in her room which stunk of human waste.
