6/10 - pathetic!!! I teach graphics (not 3D stuff mind you) and damn that MAYA stuff is mighty convincing - think we will have to start using it in our course - that's some of the most effective 3D examples I have seen - usually just get shown sapce ships and other imaginary contraptions that have been modelled and rendered in 3D.

Great link - going to pass it on to one of my staff members to convince him to look at using MAYA instead of Lightwave for our 3D classes.

Cheers!
I can't think what more you could possibly need to know... except maybe this:

Are you prepared to spend double the time teaching them MAYA?

You'd be better of getting a nice raytracer for lightwave with radiosity, caustics, soft shadow and the like - lightwave is much nicer to use.

Is MAYA like that? No, we don't have the time - main reason to change from Lightwave was due to students not being easily able to find 'evaluation' copies of the software to practice at home. We were intially thinking of 3D Max as it is very popular in the software downloads, then my manager suggested MAYA as, well, I don't know really, but it is available as a free download, so, well, there you go...

What are you thoughts of 3D Max??

Cheers
