  • Changes to scoring on the PDA

I'm sure some of you are well aware, but see below.

The day of my R test that I've waited 6 months for. FML.

Mate you'll be fine. If you've ridden enough on your R-E it's easy.

Yeah I know, was good knowing those 4 points are there if I make a dumb error that's all.

I actually think if they were to amend anything in the testing process it's this. They can't really test you for anything different for R class but you should have mastered most skills by R class time thus it's more strict. Seems fair.
From memory most things are .25 points or .5 points so unless you pull in front of a car or something i.e. an insta-fail, they're incremental points that are accrued and you'd need a fair few to get you to 2 points.

just a way of increasing re tests = moar moneee.

its easy to rack up 2 points in a test. they only score either .5 or 1 or insta fail.

didnt lookdown one road but checked all the rest? thats .5
stopped a bit too close to the centre of the road at an intersection. another .5
put your foot down on one of your o turns but nailed the rest? thats a full 1.

          congrats. you just failed.

they should at least take you up to 110kph on your R test, make sure your not going to gassit then end up a twisted pile.

on my RE test he took me out of town on the motard to do a speed test, i wasn't even sure that thing could go that fast yet.. had 50kms on it lol

then i didnt even go over 60 for my R

If it was solely about $ then the whole auto upgrade to R class wouldn't have even got a look in. They'd make more money by passing people and getting the speed camera revenue than they would having someone resit the test. They're overbooked as it is.

They're already severely over-booked as it is. The testers aren't failing you to make you re-book. In fact they'd rather you show up with plenty of experience, and hopefully having done a few "practice" tests, with an actual motorcycle instructor.

Not quite correct; minor infractions are a quarter point (0.25).

Well... yeah? Apart from your figures (quarter points in most instances), that's the whole idea. If a person can't complete the admittedly fairly easy conditions of the 15 minute R class test.. they probably should fail..

I'm indifferent to this. I see way too many wobbly kooks out there on open class machines. I've seen 40yr old blokes fail to negotiate a mellow bend, wad it badly then make lame excuses for panic breaking right off the road.

Cant pass? Practice... Like everything else in life, expect more critical to life and limb than learning the ukulele.

I wasn't aware of the fail cut-off when I took either of my tests... so this would make no difference to the way I prepared... someone who loses 4 points must be sloppy... if I had a copy of the test handy I'd be curious to see how 4 points can be accumulated and what you can get away with.... pretty sure most reasonable folk might lose 0.5 or 1 point

I have copies here from people who have taken demo rides (and haven't yet received their updated R-class drivers license card) and without exception, you're basically right - all of them are between 0 points and about 1.5 points.

Yep, my R-E around city west etc was 40km/h. Between roadworks and CBD speed limits it was ridiculous.

Was on my trust R15 though, so 6th gear for most of the test.
