Prohibition of Motorcycle Vehicles over the capacity of 750cc.
As a result of the Government investigation involving the DPI and the road safety council it has been deemed that motorcycle vehicles over the capacity of 750cc be outlawed for road use. Fatality statistics have shown that an abhorrent situation exists, and that these machines are far too powerful for today’s road safety conditions. The Joint committee has concluded that as of July 1st 2004:
ALL motorcycles over 750cc (side cars excluded) will be banned from use on the road, and all vehicles registered will be REQUIRED to submit registration papers, licence plates, and registration disks to the nearest licensing centre within 72Hrs of 1st July 2004.
The reason for this legislation is that investigation has shown that over 65% of riders on >750cc machines will on a regular occurrence, drive with frank disregard of the road rules, safety of their person, and safety of the general public. This frank disregard of public wellbeing has left the Government of Western Australia with no other choice.
If a rider is apprehended after the 1st July 2004 riding a machine over 750cc on a gazetted public road, they will face the following charges, of driving an unregistered vehicle; driving an un roadworthy vehicle, and charged accordingly within the appropriate section of the Road Traffic Act.
Persons affected by the new legislation will be compensated, the size of the remuneration will be determined on a case by case basis depending on the market value of the machine, less more than 15% for administration costs.
This Legislation has been passes, and hence no public consultation period is available, but should you like to express an opinion, please do so in writing the above address.
