Rider down.. yet another! 06/04/04

Rockingham Rd directly outside Five Star Yamaha, Tuesday 6th April at approximately 2.30pm, this guy comes out of Five Star and turns onto Rockingham Rd about 50 metres in front of me going in my direction.. his back tyre steps out considerably, jumps back to opposite side, grips and sorta highsides him.. he was only doin like 30km/h luckily.

Dont know any details, got the impression it was a personal bike.. all the Five Star boys came running out to help just as I pulled over. I helped this dude up, he seemed ok just shaken and a bit sore, the boys got the bike off the road etc and traffic resumed.

It was a REAL quick decision inside my head whether to pull off the road and park or stop on rockingham rd behind him with my hazards on.. I pulled over and parked in the Five Star car bays and nearly stalled my car getting out of it quick as I could to stop traffic.. With more time to think, I thought fuck I should have parked on the road to make sure oncoming traffic sees something's wrong but hang on .. a motorcycle laying down in the middle of the road has got to signify something's up.

I still dont know what the best option is in a situation like this.. if there's a car with hazard lights on, people just go around it thinking it's broken down they wouldnt be able to see there's been an accident. What would you guys have done?

If the rider and the bike were in the same lane, I would have parked (with hazards on) in that lane and waved the traffic to slow down. If he was straddling both lanes I would have parked straddling the white centre line to stop traffic temporarily. Even if it means holding up traffic for a few minutes then I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Put yourself in the riders shoes, if he was lying in the road injured, there's nothing worse than worrying about traffic coming up behind you, believe me!! :shock:

Good point Blade, if I'm ever again in the same situation I want to be doing the right thing not making random spur of the moment decisions.. lucky this wasn't very serious.

PurePower, good point also! hehe thanks I guess I did my best, I'd just like to know how to handle these situations a little better I guess... In fact I think everyone should exercise some thought in the matter, just in case someone bins it in front of you..

Was just talkin to the boys at Five Star......they guy had just had a new rear tyre put on.....despite the boys giving him PLENTY of warnings he still managed to step it out then got kinda highsided.

I feel for this guy cause i know what it is like. Well this guy was lucky that he had people to help him out. I had no one pull over and ask if i was okay or if i needed help. I had this one lady pull over on her 1960 bike (with side car) and ask if i was okay and if i needed help. I told her it was all okay cause the abulance was just arriving. With so many people coming past me in the morning, and not one slowed down or pulled over to ask if i needed help.

Dude, thats fucked. Would it be different if it was a cage or a pedestrian? I think so...

People these days are so goddam ignorant, and are worried about liability, what would happen if it was THEM??
