  • Buyers Stick To Honda

From an artical in the Sunday Times, by Trevor Hedge.

HONDA and YAMAHA led the way in sales figures for the first half of the year.
The next set of figures, for the year up to the end of Semptember, will be released soon and Honda is hinting that it has increased it's led.
From those first half figures for all motorcycles and ATV sales, Honda led Yamaha by more than 1000 units, 11,041 to 9996.
Suzuki and Kawasaki have a tradititional battle for third place. Suzuki enjoyed a much stronger first half than Kawasaki, selling 4848 to 3545.
Specialist dirtbike manufacturer KTM cemented itself in fifth place with 2295 units.
Then came Harley Davidson on 1752 units, with Polaris a surprising seventh, thanks to 816 ATV sales.
Eigth was WA based scooter distributer Vmoto with 738 sales. Triumph (703) was ninth and scooter company Bolwell rounded out the top ten with 666 sales.
If taking only road going motorcycles into the equation, Honda enjoyed an even more impressive lead with 2893 sales to Yamaha's 1791.
However, the tables turn with dirtbikes. Somewhat predictably, Yamaha led the way with 6329 sales, but Honda was not far behind wit 6025.
The top selling bike in the country was Yamaha WR450F with 1071 units sold.
Second best selling was the Honda CT110 (913), helped by an Australia post contract.
Topping the roadbike charts were two 50cc scooters.
    Vmoto's Milan Jx50 led the way with 440 sales over Honda's NVS50 Today (395).
    The top-selling Sportsbike was Honda's Fireblade (377), just ahead of Yamaha's YZF-R1 (372).
    The top selling 600cc machine was Honda's CBR600RR (326).

Not bad Honda. But if their figures stuck to pure sports bike sales it would be much closer... Meh the K5 will change it next year (<<Suzuki fanboy>> ) Good to see sales are up anyhow... get more of us "human catapults" on the road
    Will you insure me?!

Sportsbikes are close, which is a good thing, makes the manufactures work harder to produce a marketable product 8)
As for Suzuki, I see them dropping to 4th with that ugly K5

lol. looks like if you take out the postie bikes and scooters (are either of them real bikes anyway heh) and yamaha comes out a little on top of honda....
No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation to detail.
