  • Man injured in freeway 'drag race' crash

More sensationalist [email protected] from that bastion of journalistic integrity - Perth Now.

Turns out there is no real evidence they were speeding or even 'drag racing'.

Plus WTF are the police doing leaving de-registered cars in the emergency lane for several days? This is not that uncommon. Why can't they just get a truck and move the fcuker? They can get a truck fast enough if they feel like impounding you for breaking the 'hoon laws' (i.e squealing a tyre) when they want to!

    Freeway 'drag race' chaos

A YOUNG man was cut from this wreckage after a night of high-speed freeway madness ended in a four-car crash.
Witnesses claimed two cars were racing at up to 150km/h on Mitchell Freeway on Friday night.

One, a Toyota Hilux driven by a 27-year-old man, smashed into a Landcruiser abandoned in the emergency lane near the Hutton St exit.

The Hilux shot across three lanes of traffic, hit the emergency barrier and collided with a silver Hyundai Sonata. The Hyundai driver was not injured.

The Landcruiser, which had been de-registered and its plates handed in, rolled about 12m after impact and hit a light pole, which fell on to the freeway and hit a Ford Falcon. The 20-year-old driver was unhurt.

Police are investigating all aspects of the crash, including reports that the Hilux was racing a black Subaru.

The Hilux driver, who was not seriously hurt, was interviewed by police and given a breath test.

The passenger cut from the Hilux, a 26-year-old from Lynwood, was stable in Royal Perth Hospital.

Insp John Vivian of specialist traffic operations said: ``It is apparent ... that speed is a factor.

``We are very, very much aware that this could have been a serious crash.''

Northbound lanes of the freeway were blocked for seven hours.

Police are also investigating a four-car pile-up near the Cedric St exit shortly after the first smash.

                I don't think so........no ones that stupid..........

A hilux couldn't do 150kph if you strapped a rocket to it and pushed it of a cliff

Woah, don't think like that... you are not going to get a bonus/promotion for thinking of such a hazard, leave that for the people with power.

                      4L V6 should have a hilux reach 150 easily

The turbo desiel hiluxes can do around 180 kph. I know this because I have done it.
I love two strokes. Because they annoy the shit out of people. ^_^

the hilux would get to 150 no worries. how quick is the question.
if a hilux starts being competition for my rex....
but only says subaru.. could be a brumby or outback etc... but who wants to race them...?

What do you expect from Perth now?

The police have no authority to have the vehicle towed. It's up to the local council/shire after it has been reported.

it isn't only performance cars that can be driven faster than the speed limit... van racing is possibly the most ridiculous form of road racing.
maybe we should clarify that perth now considers street racing and drag racing as the same thing.
