• Sounds like a better way of managing “advantage”.

Not really sure about how else it will be applied.

This is to replace the giving up one position which a rider loses anywhere between 1-5 seconds. A ride through penalty you lose 20-30 seconds.

Yeah, I get that. Paras post originally said "Sounds a bit like the idea of a drive through penalty" and as I commented he added in the rest of his post.

I guess this would solve the issue of riders being told to drop a place and before they can do so get legitimately overtaken?

• My concern, is what Everything MotoGP have just posted.

Instead of ride though penalties and time penalties
RTPs should remain - there is a time and place for them.

Although - what perfectionist quoted is pretty bloody obvious.

The system is intended to replace the current standard in-race punishment stewards are able to hand out, which is to drop one position.
I like the idea.

• There isn't a speed limit that they must abide when going through it, if they're being penalised I imagine they would want to get it over with pretty quickly, being Qatar it will likely be dirty... kinda feels like there is a lot of potential for a crash for anyone going through the penalty.

And being dirty with sand all over it, potential for front end washing out is rather big if they are not careful, if Prefectionist picture is anything to go by.

• What if they cut the lines of the penalty lines to gain advantage? Another penalty?

• So assuming they get the penalty for an infringement either on or just after that corner they have a whole lap to get a break before having to take the penalty?
You could likely make up a good deal of ground or make a decent break in a whole lap before completing the penalty

Also do they get to choose when they ride through that section or does it have to be the next lap?

If they can easily gap the pack, then a 2.5 second penalty might not bother them.

But if someone is repeatedly exceeding track limits just to keep up, then that’s going to hurt.

They might impose a lap limit (say, 5 laps) before it needs to be done, rather than the rider trying to get a 2.5+ second lead before doing it.

• How many ride through penalties were there last season? I think it won’t have a big impact, but we’ll see...🙂
