  • V. Rossi - 9th highest Paid Athelete in the World

$35million this year. In very good company.

Tiger (waaaaaay ahead), Kobe, Kimi, Phil Michelson, Jordan (still), Beckham, Lebron, Manny P.

    In Pictures: The World's Highest-Paid Athletes - No. 9 Valentino Rossi - Forbes.com

What do you think? $35M/yr too much? Only other person on the list risking life and limb is Raikonen, and maybe the boxers. I'll be Lorenzo is just steaming about taking half of what Ducati offered to stay with the Yamaha Factory.

I think he gets what he deserves

He is an icon and a brand.

Someone is prepared to pay him that therefore by definition he is worth it.

I do think his next Yamaha contract for 2011 and maybe 2012 will be the first pay cut of his career.

Raka is having a laugh at $45m/year though, he must have some smart lawyers and agents.

in four or five years when Jorge Lorenzo is the factory Yamaha #1, he will be making what Valentino Rossi makes without too many problems. he is a marketable rider, just like Rossi. that is what helps to make money just as much as race wins. how else do you think that Gabor Talmacsi got the Scot seat over Yuki Takahashi? Takahashi was a hell of a lot faster than Talmacsi, but got dumped when push came to shove. there was only one machine available (HRC won't produce any more RC212V's if it can't support them properly), and Talmacsi is a lot more marketable in Europe than Takahashi

The biggest star in motorcycle racing earns $16 million annually from his contract to ride for Yamaha and his earnings more than double when you count licensing income, bonuses and endorsement deals with the likes of energy drink Monster.

So its 'only' 16mil from Yamaha. Personally I think they are all paid waay too much.

they get that much because they're the best at what they do (even if the pay is over the top, from our point of view). if Yamaha, Monster, Red Bull, Repsol, Rizla and all the other riders can clearly justify paying the millions they do for top level riders to endorse them with real returns, they'll keep paying it. whatever wins on Sunday sells on Monday. as long as the mighty dollar still talks, companies will willingly burn money to earn money

Sucked in by thread baiting but I know three professional golfers. 2 hours in the gym 4 days a week and 6 to 8 hours of back breaking, mind numbing practice every day requires a level of fitness.
I can't tell you how many times I have seen supposedly fit people wither and struggle in less than 18 holes.
The WA Amateur champs requires over the course of 5 days 36,36,36,18 then 36 holes each day. At my fittest during my motocross days there is no way I could have done that!

He is still one of the most naturally talented golfers around though.

I like golf. And you can't tell me Tiger isn't an athelete. Seen him lately? makes most footy players look like debate club waifs.

Rossi is now being sued by the accountants who helped him beat his tax rap.

ANSA.it - Sport - Moto: Rossi non paga commercialista

Apparently they're into him for 1.5% of the €170m they saved him. Whoever is handling this shit for him is doing a less than awesome job.

Because Talmacsi is Hungarian and we rule the world
