    James Toseland loses MotoGP ride

source: James Toseland loses MotoGP ride - | Motorcycle Sport | MotoGP News | MotoGP Results | MCN

    Summary
James Toseland is likely to make a swift but reluctant return to World Superbikes in 2010 after losing his MotoGP ride.
World Superbike sensation Ben Spies has opted to quit World Superbikes and move to the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad where he will join fellow Texan Colin Edwards next season in an all-American team.

Spies, who recently signed a two-year deal with Yamaha, has decided to quit WSB even though he has yet to clinch the world title.

MCN also understands Toseland’s manager Roger Burnett was in Milan this week trying to secure the 28-year-old British rider a place in Yamaha’s World Superbike squad as replacement for Spies.
But there is fierce competition for an R1 ride with World Supersport leader Cal Crutchlow a leading candidate. Aussie Chris Vermeulen also held talks with Yamaha management in Italy this week.

Nah won't get that and really close racing till they all on the same make of bike -

WE DEMAND EQUAL MACHINERY FOR ALL -

and make it slower for safety - reduce capacity to 600cc

        then we'll - oh wait!

Shame that rookies have to start with non factory teams. He may still give them a fright but his machinery will be below par.

Does Spies still fall under the rookie regs? He had a couple of GP's for suzuki. Or do they have to do a complete season?

That rookie rule is just plain stupid IMO. If spies wants to go factory MotoGP in 2011 he has to move up to a satellite team in 2010 - otherwise it will be 2012 before he can get a factory ride - fuckin dumb rule IMO!

Spies wildcard rides on Suzukis were in 2008 before the Rookie rule came in so they don't count.

I think the rule specifies that a rider only has to complete 9 races to be eligible for a factory ride.

Also, I believe that the rookie rule is fuking brilliant. We currently have 17 bikes on the grid. That is techinically less then the required 18 to be considered a "World Championship". The rookie rule allows satelite teams to get riders like Spies, Simoncelli et al (Suzuki were exempt coz they don't have a satelite team which I think is crap), and thus get the sponsorship money they need to run the team. Otherwise, we'd be seeing less and less bikes on the grid, which is the last thing we need?

You mean like lorenzo and pedrosa?

                        edit:
wait... what? some new rule or some shit?
“Crashing is shit for you, shit for the bike, shit for the mechanics and shit for the set-up,” Checa told me a while back. “It’s a signal that you are heading in the wrong direction. You want to win but crashing is the opposite. It’s like being in France when you want to go to England and when you crash you go to Spain. That way you’ll never get to England!” -- Carlos Checa

Or would it - the whole MotoGP circus could wrap up and go home and we could watch WSBK rounds with all the best riders together.

Seriously I think its a crap rule - if you are good enough to get a ride in MotoGP you are not a friggin rookie rider.
