        on a more serious note...
go and checkout http://www.mcrcwa.com.au/ if you haven't already. sign up for the membership then start doing racecraft days to get your MA competition license. I think you need to do 1:17 or faster at the track. after that do as many trackdays as possible and start racing when you feel you're competitive enough. is that about right Ben, Calvin?

i'm planning to race pocketbikes next year (don't laugh it's just as fun and competitive) also will be doing as many trackdays on the big bike also so see you at the track!!!

Yeah best way to go is to ring the club on 9409 1002. They will be able to give all the info on what riding gear is needed, bike prep that sort of thing and then the rececraft courses. Set out a budget for yourself as well, the Clubmen series seems to get a lot of interest where u can run any cc bike but its just good fun. Also draw up a budget at the start of the year, once you have your bike and gear it isn't too costly.......... lets face it racing is expensive but once these are covered it's basically tyres and fuel.

The other thing is to come up to the track and have a chat to the guys, everyone is friendly and keen to help out, you also get the right info that way. Any queries don't hesitate to ask.

Just had a glance through a few lap sheets.
Seems the slowest guys were running around 72's this season.
The fastest were pulling 62's fairly regularly.
Don't let the lap times put you off though :-)

                        Hewie / Jarrid

As ben said once you got the equipment, it's just running costs on average. What I have done is bought a bike with a spare set of fairings, bolts, brackets etc, so I ride my bike during the week, then strip it down (only takes 2 hrs) to become a race bike.
In regards to tyres (I am doing Supersport) I use them for both, use the sides up on the track and the middle up on the road, alot of people sell them for $50ea, option yours.
It has cost me around $17 to $18,000 includes new bike, fairings, power commander, Micron exhaust, braided lines, Oggy knobes. Not bad at all!!

By all means give it a go 8)

Oh if your good enough your given a bike to ride, thats even cheaper! 8) (Like Ben) luky bastard 8)

                          Hmmm....
I already owned my GSXR although it was totally stock and I owned all the protective gear as well. My rough costs for this season were:
                          Fees - 1500
                          Oil, filters, etc - 110
Bike maintenance, repairs, spares, etc - 4300
This included fairing, painting and stickers, rings, gaskets, mufflers, spare wheels, chains, sprockets, shock, fork springs amongst other things.
Tyres - 2000 - first half of the season I ran second hand tyres.
                          Brakes - 350 - includes SS lines.
                          Fuel - 800.
Misc stuff like tools, photos, video tapes, etc - 1500.
                          It cost me about $11,000.
For next season I'm running a CBR929RR which I've bought as a written off road bike with minor cosmetic damage and also totally stock. I'm racing it as a Production Superbike which severely limits what I can spend money on though crashing is likely to be more expensive as I have to use OEM parts.
A mate of mine raced his road bike with no mods, did minimal track days and only did one Historic round and it probably cost him less than $5000.
I plan on doing interstate rounds so I expect the season to cost me $15-$20K including the cost of the bike.
