Lap Records Set To Tumble At Barbagallo Raceway
Australia's best motorcycle racers return to the West for the first time since 2001 for round 4 of the 2004 Shell Advance Australian Superbike Championships on the weekend of June 25-26-27th.

Last weekend the V8 Supercars shattered the track lap records by almost 3 seconds, from a 57:99 to the mid 55's. Superbikes - the high powered 2 wheeled equivalents of the V8's are expected to to go even faster and disintegrate the long standing lap record set back in 2000, by Honda rider Adam Fergusson – a 57:2055 lap time – with a speed of over 150 kilometres per hr!

Superbikes are expected to be break into the 54 sec lap times in qualifying which starts on Saturday.

Approximately 150+ competitors have entered the event which includes Championship classes for Superbikes, Supersport's, Superstocks, Sidecars and 125 GP's plus C and D grade feature events with near capacity grids in the two premier classes – Superbikes and Supersports.

A record 22 sidecar teams will also compete for national status with past National and State Champions Lindsay Fagan and passenger Ash Voice currently placed 2nd in the Championship along with Huntingdales Clive Watson and Dirk Jeal (Suzuki 1000) competing for the first time in a national round in the F1 class having previously won the national Formula 2 Cup in 2003.

A total of 7 WA teams will come up against the likes of current Championship leaders Vince Messina and passenger Alison Scoullar and 3rd placegetters Neville Lush and Martin Scott. The Formula 2 class (600cc powered machines) is currently being led by Jason and Brett James from Dave McLachlan and Evelyn Scholz. Local veteran Micky Robbins and passenger Karen Dore are determined to put up a fight for the lead in the class.

In Superbikes, Victorian Adam Fergusson (Castrol Honda CBR1000RR) leads the Championship just 7 points clear of teammate Josh Brookes after dominating the previous round, taking victory in all three hometrack races. Past multiple Champion, Team Suzuki's Shawn Giles (GSX-R1000 is currently in third position with Team Kawasaki's Jamie Stauffer (Kawasaki ZX-10R) in 4th place.

Flying the flag for WA will be local Superbike riders – current State Championship leader Strett Cull (Yamaha) along with Stuart Adams (Yamaha) and Russell Nash (Yamaha). Adams is the fastest of the local riders recently setting a " local" lap record time of 57.5521.

Padbury based teenager Bryan Staring riding the Allect/Bartercard 125RS Honda is determined to win at his hometrack and at the same time reduce the gap on 125GP Championship leader Mick Kelly (Honda) who currently leads on 191 pts from Staring 164pts and Matthew Kuhne 151pts. Also another local teenager to keep an eye on is Carramar resident Tom Hatton who is also contesting the national series.

The super competitive Supersport class (600cc machines) has manufacturer Honda smiling with the top three places held by Honda riders. Leading the charge is Josh Brookes (Castrol Honda), from teammate Adam Fergusson, from New South Welshman Russell Holland. Team Kawasaki Australia's Robbie Baird currently holds 4th place from Glenn Allerton (Yamaha) in 5th. Locals Russell Nash (Yamaha), Alan Watts, Wayne Smith (Honda) and Strett Cull (Yamaha) will also be contesting this class along with Mildura based Josh Waters (Data Dot Yamaha) who is currently leading the WA Supersport Championship having contested the first 2 rounds this year.

Superstock racing was introduced in 2002 and is open to C and D grade riders only, on lightly modified Supersport type bikes. WA has been running the class for the past 2 years and has a strong competitive field of riders that will compete for the first time on a national level this weekend. Queensland rider Gareth Jones (Yamaha) leads the Aussie Championship from South Australians Billy McConnell (Honda) and Brendan Roberts (Yamaha). Locals to watch for are Capels Jamie Boland (Suzuki) and Wanneroo resident Cameron Stronach (Mack 1 Kawasaki)
